It’s a brand new week in major junior hockey, but some things refuse to change such as the OHL’s London Knights continuing to sit at the top spot in the CHL top 10 rankings.
Joining London from the OHL was the Kitchener Rangers at the five spot, Windsor Spitfires at the eight spot and the Barrie Colts at the 10 spot.
The QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats and Rimouski Océanic checked in at the two and three spots respectively.
Like the OHL, the WHL also saw four teams in the top 10. The Everett Silvertips checked in at four, Spokane Chiefs at six, Medicine Hat Tigers at seven and the Calgary Hitmen at nine.
Washington Capitals prospect and current Spokane Chief Andrew Cristall continues to bring in the accolades as he was named the WHL Player of the Week. It’s the third time he’s won the award this season in addition to a Player of the Month honor in November.
In the past week Cristall led all skaters with three goals and eight assists for 11 points in three games against Western Conference opponents.
Staying in the Western Conference, Everett’s Landon DuPont has been showing out once again as he received Rookie of the Week honors. He showed out with one goal and three assists for four points in the past week while becoming the first rookie defenseman in 35 years to record a 50-point season.
On the goaltender side of things, Prince Albert Raiders goalie Max Hildebrand was named WHL Goaltender of the Week after a stellar performance between the pipes. He went 2-0-0-0 this week with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage.
It was also announced on Tuesday Medicine Hat Tigers star Gavin McKenna received WHL Player of the Month honors. The Whitehorse, Yukon-born star tallied seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points in 11 games since returning from the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship. So far this season, the 2007-born left winger has tallied 27 goals and 61 assists for 88 points in 42 games. The scary thing is how young he is and has another full year of development in the WHL before he becomes NHL draft eligible in 2026.
While Medicine Hat leads the Eastern Conference, they’ll be losing Tanner Molendyk after this season due to aging out. That loss will hurt them no doubt, but with how McKenna will only get better and they’ll likely make some tweaks to the roster,
The Silvertips are still ahead of the Tigers in the overall standings, but Everett may not be the favorite to come out of the Western Conference anymore after recent play. DuPont may be tearing it up, but Berkly Catton, Andrew Cristall and the Chiefs have been exploding. Spokane recently emerged victorious in Everett in dominant fashion 10-3. That was on the back of another victory over Everett but by a much smaller margin of 3-2.
If this season’s bracket shakes out right, we could see Western Conference Finals matchup between the two US Division foes. The winner of that series would likely face the Tigers in the WHL Championship Series.
