FIVE MINUTE MAJOR CHL Top Ten and more.

It’s a new week in major junior hockey and with come the Player of the Week, Goaltender of the Week, Rookie of the Week and CHL top 10 rankings and sometimes other news.
The OHL’s London Knights landed at the top spot for the eighth consecutive week. The OHL also saw the Kitchener Rangers land at five, Windsor Spitfires at six and a new addition in the Oshawa Generals at eight.
In the WHL, the Everett Silvertips moved up to the two spot, Spokane Chiefs to the seven spot and Calgary Hitmen at eight.
Everett remains atop the WHL as they sit 12 points ahead of the next closest team in the league and 13 points ahead of the next closest team in the Western Conference. However, there were a handful of matchups set for Wednesday night that could change things. One of those matchups saw the Silvertips travel to Spokane to take on the red hot Chiefs. Spokane sat third in the Western Conference with 58 points.
The QMJHL saw the Moncton Wildcats drop down to three while this year’s Memorial Cup host Rimouski Océanic slotted in at four and the Drummondville Voltigeurs at 10.
This week’s WHL Player of the Week honor was awarded to Seattle Kraken prospect and Spokane Chiefs star Berkly Catton. He tallied eight points in three games including a hat trick while dishing out three assists. It was Catton’s first hat trick of the season in a 10-0 victory on the road against the Kelowna Rockets.

The WHL Rookie of the Week also came from the Western Conference as defenseman Ryan Lin of the Vancouver Giants received the honor. Lin dishes out four assists in two games to help the Giants sweep their latest homestand. This included his second career three-point effort in a 6-3 victory over the Tri-City Americans.
In the WHL’s Eastern Conference, Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Harrison Meneghin of the Medicine Hat Tigers was named the WHL Goaltender of the Week. He went 2-0-0-0 on the week with a .96 goals-against average, a .944 save percentage and a shutout. Going into Wednesday night’s slate of matchups, the Tigers sat first in the Eastern Conference with 58 points.
Medicine Hat’s Gavin McKenna is also on a heater as he’s tallied 11 goals and 33 assists for 44 points as he rides a 20-game point streak.
The fact Spokane is third in the WHL’s Western Conference with 58 points while Medicine Hat also has 58 and sits first in the Eastern Conference speaks to the competitiveness of the WHL.
Another small bit of news in the WHL’s US Division saw Portland Winterhawks’ alum Rodrigo Ābols skate in his NHL debut with the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night. He’s not your average rookie though as he’s 29-years-old. After his two seasons with Portland, Ābols spent two seasons in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He then split one season between the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL.
He played for Portland during the 2015-16 campaign before ending his CHL career with the QMJHL’s Acadie-Bathurst Titan the following season. In his lone season with Portland, he ranked fourth on the team with 20 goals.
