HockeyWolf Player of the Week: Jake O’Brien Nine point week propels Bulldogs captain to league wide recognition

Jake O’Brien put together a dominant three-game stretch for the Brantford Bulldogs, earning HockeyWolf Player of the Week honors after leading the OHL with nine points. The Seattle Kraken prospect recorded four goals and five assists, driving Brantford’s offense throughout the week.

O’Brien opened the stretch on Thursday night in North Bay with a two-goal, one-assist performance, helping the Bulldogs earn a point in a 5–4 overtime loss to the Battalion. He followed that effort with two assists on Friday in Sudbury as Brantford bounced back with a 5–4 win over the Wolves. His biggest night came Sunday, when he powered the Bulldogs to a 7–1 statement victory over the Barrie Colts, snapping Barrie’s eight-game winning streak. O’Brien scored twice and added two assists in the win, extending his point streak to six games.

The 18-year-old from Toronto continues to set the pace across the league. His 1.78 points-per-game leads the OHL, and he currently sits atop the league with 41 assists, totaling 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) through 32 games. The 6'2, 177-pound captain was named OHL Rookie of the Year in 2023–24 and has now amassed 219 points (61 goals, 158 assists) over 159 regular season games with Brantford.

Selected eighth overall by the Seattle Kraken in the 2025 NHL Draft, O’Brien has built an impressive résumé that also includes OHL Cup MVP honors and a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. His leadership and offensive production continue to drive the Bulldogs’ success.
