he Yellowstone Quake have turned a page in their franchise history with the appointment of Gaetano “Coach G” Moirano as Head Coach for the 2025–26 season. Known for his energy, attention to detail, and proven track record, Moirano brings a mix of experience, passion, and vision that the Quake hope will spark a new era of hockey in Cody, Wyoming.
A Proven Leader
Moirano’s coaching résumé stretches across several levels of hockey. Most recently, he led the Binghamton Buzz of the NA3HL to a Fraser Cup playoff run in their inaugural season. Prior to that, Coach Moirano guided his Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights USPHL Elite team to the 2023 USPHL Elite National Championship, finishing as runner-up after a double-overtime thriller in the title game.
His leadership style emphasizes accountability, daily improvement, and developing players not only for the next level of hockey but also for success off the ice. Reflecting on his time in Binghamton, Moirano said, “It’s about building belief. Once players buy into a system and each other, winning becomes the byproduct.” That belief turned the Buzz into a dangerous opponent down the stretch and earned recognition across the league.
A Fresh Chapter in Cody
The Yellowstone Quake organization has faced its share of challenges in recent seasons, but Moirano sees the situation as an opportunity rather than a setback. “The history of this program is rich, and the community of Cody deserves a team that competes every night. My job is to instill a standard, to make sure players know that wearing the Quake jersey means something,” he explained.
Cody itself provides a unique backdrop for junior hockey. Just outside Yellowstone National Park, the Quake’s home ice offers both players and fans an experience unlike any other in the NA3HL. Moirano plans to connect deeply with the community, ensuring the team becomes a source of pride while also serving as a launching pad for young players chasing college and higher-level junior opportunities.
Focus on Development and Opportunity
For Moirano, development is more than a talking point. His coaching philosophy places equal emphasis on skill progression, systems and strategy, and mental toughness. He has already helped move players on to NCAA Division III and ACHA programs, building a reputation as a coach who advocates tirelessly on behalf of his players. “At the end of the day, my job is to open doors for these players,” Moirano said. “If they’re willing to put in the work, I’ll do everything I can to make sure they’re seen by the right programs and coaches.”
Looking Ahead
The Quake have opened the 2025–26 season with a renewed sense of purpose, taking on the top-ranked Bozeman Ice Dogs. Despite falling 2-1 on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday, the Quake showed they could compete with one of the best teams in the league. Under Moirano’s leadership, expectations are clear: compete, improve, and represent Cody with pride. Fans can expect a team that battles from the opening puck drop to the final whistle. Moirano knows the challenge ahead is steep, but he welcomes it. “It won’t happen overnight, but we’ll take it shift by shift, game by game. My goal is simple: to turn the Yellowstone Quake into a team that nobody wants to play against. We are going to make the Quake great again.”
With a fresh vision and a coach who thrives on building winning cultures, the Quake look ready to embrace the future. Check out Coach Moirano’s official NA3HL 3View Interview with the Brittany Hart:
