14 Games, Plenty of Drama on Showcase Day One

The 2026 NAHL Showcase got underway Wednesday in Blaine, Minnesota, with all 32 teams in action across 14 games.

The opening day featured everything from one-goal games and overtime thrillers to a pair of shutouts and a 7-1 offensive explosion. Several teams also maintained unbeaten starts to the young regular season, while others picked up their first victories of the campaign.

Here is a look at all 14 games from Day One.

Billings 4, Minnesota Mallards 2

The Billings Cattle Punchers opened their Showcase schedule with a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Mallards.

Devon Winder opened the scoring for Billings with 12:08 remaining in the first period, but Minnesota's Mavrik Duhaime answered with about three minutes remaining in the opening frame.

Joey Fankhanel restored the Billings lead in the second period before Micah Seery extended it to 3-1 early in the third.

Ty Gordon pulled Minnesota within one, but the Mallards' late push ultimately created an opportunity for Fankhanel to score his second goal of the night into an empty net with 23 seconds passing between the goalie being pulled and the insurance goal.

The victory was Billings' third of the season.

Minnesota Wilderness 3, Johnstown 1

The Minnesota Wilderness also improved to 3-0 with a 3-1 victory over the Johnstown Tomahawks.

Kevin Lysohir scored twice for Minnesota, including the opening goal and a second-period power-play marker. Owen Smith also scored for the Wilderness.

Johnstown's Evan Kensey scored the Tomahawks' only goal, with Jacob Duval earning the assist.

The victory kept Minnesota perfect through its first three games.

Minot 5, Elmira 3

The Minot Minotauros rallied past the Elmira Aviators 5-3 in a game that featured several lead changes.

Elmira's Adam Sebastian Kurka opened the scoring before Artyom Zhukov answered for Minot.

Cruz Ferguson put Elmira back ahead in the second period, but Philip Wiklund tied the game.

Zach Palik then gave Minot its first lead of the night early in the third. Timofei Korober briefly pulled Elmira even again before Dane Ramirez restored the Minotauros' advantage.

Briggs Knott added the final goal with 41 seconds remaining to complete the 5-3 victory.

New Hampshire 4, St. Cloud 1

The New Hampshire Mountain Kings scored twice in the opening period and never surrendered control in a 4-1 win over the St. Cloud Norsemen.

Benjamin Short opened the scoring and later added a power-play goal for his second of the night. Aidan Patton also scored in the first period.

Christian Garrity finally put St. Cloud on the board in the third, but Deke Davidson answered less than a minute later with a power-play goal to restore New Hampshire's three-goal advantage.

New Jersey 5, Janesville 2

The New Jersey Titans erased two Janesville leads before pulling away for a 5-2 victory over the Jets.

Harry Minucci gave Janesville the early lead, but Nikolas Doumas answered for New Jersey.

Grant Dillard restored the Jets' advantage in the second period before Doumas scored his second of the night to tie the game again.

Hayden Saad and Jackson Nakfoor then put the Titans ahead 4-2 before Joe Pocrnic added an insurance goal with 41 seconds remaining.

Kenai River 4, Pueblo 3 in overtime

The Kenai River Brown Bears needed overtime to defeat the Pueblo Peppers 4-3 in Pueblo's season opener.

Benjamin Tauscher gave Kenai River the early lead with a power-play goal, but Jonathon Pylypuik answered for Pueblo late in the first.

Jake McIntosh then put the Peppers ahead with a short-handed goal early in the second.

Kenai River responded with goals from Brady Morrell and Derek Schliebner before Nolan Warner tied the game for Pueblo late in the period.

Neither team scored in the third, sending the game to overtime.

Kenai River received a power play in the extra period, and Karim Kazhibekov converted to give the Brown Bears the 4-3 victory.

Grand Junction 3, Danbury 1

The Grand Junction River Hawks earned their first victory of the season by defeating the Danbury Hat Tricks 3-1.

Adam Konowalchuk scored early to give Grand Junction the lead.

Holden Gallagher doubled the advantage late in the second period, although Tristan Konobelj answered for Danbury less than a minute later.

Gallagher then scored his second of the game with only 22 seconds remaining to seal the River Hawks' first win.

Fairbanks 2, Bismarck 1

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs remained unbeaten with a 2-1 victory over the Bismarck Bobcats.

Bismarck's Cade Bell scored first, but Fairbanks answered before the end of the opening period through Mason Serafin.

Dean Andrews then scored early in the third to put the Ice Dogs ahead.

Fairbanks goaltender Izaak Kalis turned aside 10 shots in the final period to preserve the lead and hand Bismarck its first loss of the season.

Watertown 7, Wisconsin 1

The Watertown Shamrocks produced the biggest offensive performance of the day, rolling past the Wisconsin Windigo 7-1.

Justin Obrochta opened the scoring before Justin Bartley added a power-play goal early in the second.

Hunter Friedrich got Wisconsin on the board, but Watertown answered with goals from Jake Pietila and Jordan Brothers before the end of the period.

Kyle Greene added a short-handed goal in the third, followed by Boone Chartier and a second goal from Pietila.

Watertown goaltender Mason Gudridge stopped 32 of 33 shots in the victory.

The Shamrocks also held a 54-33 advantage in shots.

Aberdeen 5, Springfield 3

The Aberdeen Wings erased an early two-goal deficit to defeat the Springfield Jr. Blues 5-3.

James Marshall opened the scoring for Springfield on the power play, and Cartyr Simonson made it 2-0 late in the first.

Aberdeen answered in the second through Jonathan Doucette, Bradyn Strom and David Hruby, turning the deficit into a 3-2 lead.

Payne Riffey and Brody Dustin extended the Wings' advantage in the third before Marshall scored his second of the night for Springfield.

Aberdeen held on for the 5-3 victory.

Philadelphia 5, Ogden 0

The Philadelphia Rebels opened the Showcase with a dominant 5-0 shutout of the Ogden Mustangs.

Philadelphia scored three times in the opening period through Paxton Couture, Emmet McClaine and Oscar Djurberg.

Nick Beam and Dylan Moran added third-period goals.

Philadelphia goaltender Benjamin Varsa stopped all 39 shots he faced to record the shutout.

Ogden actually outshot Philadelphia 39-14, but the Rebels converted their opportunities while Varsa kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard.

Anchorage 3, Idaho Falls 2 in a shootout

The Anchorage Wolverines needed a shootout to get past the Idaho Falls Spud Kings 3-2.

Jack McKenna scored Anchorage's first goal on the power play before Brett Kazmierski answered for Idaho Falls.

Benson Peterson restored Anchorage's lead in the third, but Csanade Erdosi tied the game with 1:11 remaining while the Spud Kings were short-handed.

Neither team scored in overtime.

Cooper Zinda converted for Idaho Falls in the shootout, but Chase Trompeter and Sheldon Rioux scored for Anchorage to give the Wolverines the victory.

Anchorage goaltender Maverick Avent made 30 saves, while Idaho Falls goaltender Dylan McFadyen stopped 34 shots.

Maryland 3, Austin 2

The Maryland Black Bears remained unbeaten with a 3-2 victory over the Austin Bruins.

Tanner Terranova opened the scoring for Maryland before Austin's Kyle Sorensen tied the game in the second.

Vincent Glos restored Maryland's lead before the end of the period, with Brayden Wade adding a third-period goal to make it 3-1.

Austin's Ally Mostafaie cut the deficit to one, but Maryland held on for the victory.

Michael Iliff stopped 22 of 24 shots for Maryland, while Dilans Birkans made 21 saves for Austin.

The teams finished tied at 24 shots apiece.

Lone Star 5, Northeast 4 in a shootout

The Lone Star Brahmas survived a back-and-forth battle with the Northeast Generals, winning 5-4 in a shootout.

Leo Lundblad opened the scoring for Lone Star before Kyle Moyer tied the game for Northeast.

Peter Koukouves gave the Generals their first lead in the second, but Lone Star answered through Oliver.

Jack Messick put Northeast back in front before Dylan Chernoff tied the game again.

Zetterlund then gave the Brahmas a 4-3 lead early in the third, but Joc Bukovec answered just 15 seconds later to force another tie.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout.

Kody Moyer and Logan Poulin scored for Northeast, while Channing Kao, Zetterlund and Vincenzo Capano converted for Lone Star to give the Brahmas the 5-4 victory.

A busy opening day sets the tone

Fourteen games produced a little bit of everything on the opening day of the 2026 NAHL Showcase.

Billings, Minnesota Wilderness, Fairbanks and Maryland maintained unbeaten starts, while Grand Junction and Watertown picked up important first victories. Kenai River and Anchorage survived overtime and shootout tests, respectively, and Philadelphia and Watertown delivered the day's most decisive wins.

With three more days of Showcase hockey still ahead, the opening day provided an early look at teams that are already finding their footing and others still searching for answers.
