Tyler Starich and the Minnesota Wilderness split their weekend series with the Mason City Toros, but the bigger story was Starich himself. Returning to the Wilderness after spending last season with the team, the ’06 forward played his first full weekend back, and wasted no time reminding everyone what he brings to the lineup.
Even in Friday’s 6–3 loss, Starich stood out. He picked up two points, assisting on the Wilderness’ second goal before burying another with under a minute left in the second period. It was the kind of effort that carried into game two, where he took over the scoreboard.
In Saturday’s 5–2 win on the road, Starich opened the scoring early, then struck again on the power play for the lone goal of the second period, one that eventually held up as the game winner. He added an assist on the team’s fourth goal to wrap up a three-game stretch that totaled five points and plenty of momentum.
Head Coach Chris Ratzloff summed up Starich’s return perfectly.
“Since coming back to the team, Tyler has made an immediate impact. His energy lifts everyone around him, and his offensive ability was on full display this weekend. He earned recognition for his hard work, leadership, and knack for finding the back of the net.”
Starich’s poised, productive weekend left little doubt in awarding him this week’s HockeyWolf Player of the Week distinction.
