NAHL's Matthew Martin Named HockeyWolf Player of the Week Aberdeen forward shines with clutch goals and leadership.

Aberdeen Wings forward Matthew Martin continues to make his presence felt every time he steps on the ice. The 6-foot-6 Montreal native has been a driving force for the Wings all season, and this past weekend was no exception. After another strong showing against the Bismarck Bobcats, Martin earns this week’s HockeyWolf Player of the Week honors.

Martin kicked things off Friday night at the Odde Ice Center, wasting no time getting on the scoresheet. Less than a minute into the game, he helped set up Easton Edward’s opening goal to give the Wings an early boost. Later in the third, with Aberdeen trailing and time running out, Martin buried a huge game-tying goal on the penalty kill to keep his team alive. The Wings eventually fell in overtime, but Martin’s impact was undeniable.

He carried that momentum into Saturday’s rematch, where he once again delivered in clutch moments. With the game tied 1–1 midway through the third period, Martin scored on the power play to give Aberdeen the lead. He wasn’t done there, adding another primary assist on Edward’s late goal to seal a 4–1 win and cap off a stellar weekend performance.

In total, Martin tallied two goals and two assists across the two-game series. He’s now recorded points in 13 of his last 15 games and leads the Wings with 25 points on the season, 10 goals and a team-high 15 assists. His production has nearly doubled from last year, and his +13 rating reflects just how important he’s been on both sides of the puck.

Wings Head Coach Scott Langer had high praise for his veteran forward’s consistency and leadership: 

“Matthew has been so consistent with his game this season. He changes games at big times and always seems to rise to the occasion.”

Now in his final year of junior hockey, Martin has proven to be one of the most reliable and dynamic players in the league. His combination of size, skill, and poise continues to fuel Aberdeen’s success, and his latest performance is just another reminder of why he’s one of the top forwards in the NAHL.
