For Kurtis Stajkowski, a promising netminder now suiting up for St. John Bosco Prep, the past two seasons have been defined by steady development, relentless preparation, and a clear vision for the future.

Stajkowski’s 2024–25 season was spent with Edge U17 Prep in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL), where he logged a 4-4-2 record with a .864 save percentage and a 4.83 goals-against average. Statistically, he landed in the middle of the pack among 2009-born goaltenders in the league, but the numbers only tell part of the story. Playing against elite competition, he gained valuable experience facing high shot volumes and learning how to adapt to the speed and skill of top-level opponents.

Now, in the 2025–26 season, Stajkowski has transitioned to St. John Bosco Prep, where he continues to see plenty of rubber each night. Rather than being discouraged by the workload, he embraces it. “I’m seeing lots of shots and I am continuing to develop,” he explains. For a young goaltender, those repetitions are invaluable—each save, rebound, and read sharpening his instincts and composure.

When asked about career milestones or firsts, Stajkowski is refreshingly candid: “No career milestones yet or first this year.” That humility underscores his long-term mindset. He isn’t chasing quick accolades; he’s building a foundation brick by brick. His focus is on the process—on refining the details of his game that will eventually allow him to compete at the highest levels.

Goaltending is often described as a mental position, and Stajkowski leans into that reality. “My attention, preparation and approach to playing games” are what he believes separate him from the pack. This season, he has zeroed in on patience and play-reading ability, two traits that can elevate a goalie from good to great.

“I feel like I’m calm under pressure and help give my team a chance to win each game,” he says. That calmness is not just a personality trait—it’s a competitive advantage. In high-stakes moments, when shooters bear down and the game hangs in the balance, a composed goaltender can steady an entire bench.

Stajkowski’s discipline extends beyond the rink. “Academically, I am on top of my classes,” he notes, underscoring his commitment to balance. His long-term academic ambition is to pursue Sports Psychology in college, a field that dovetails perfectly with his position. Understanding the mental side of performance is not only a career path but also a tool he can apply to his own game.

Looking forward, Stajkowski envisions himself playing Division I college hockey, a goal that fuels his daily grind. He sees the NAHL and USHL as the natural stepping stones to get there, and he’s determined to carve out his path through those leagues.

For now, the focus remains on development—on facing shots, refining technique, and continuing to grow both mentally and physically. The milestones will come, but Stajkowski’s journey is already defined by something more enduring: a commitment to preparation, patience, and perseverance.
